British couples moving in together are more prone to divorce
According to a study, more than half of the couples who decide to move together end up separating.
More than half (56%) of Britons separated after moving in with a partner, according to Good Move research.
Leaving bags, clothes, and shoes everywhere is the biggest problem when living with a partner (22%), while others leave the toilet seat up (21%) and don’t wash dishes (21%).
“Moving in together is a big step.”
Nima Ghasri, Director of Good Move, said: “It is very interesting to find that many people in the UK have broken up with a partner after moving in together, and we can only imagine how much it has increased during closing.”
“Moving in together is a big step, and we hope couples will give serious thought to the decision before signing a rental agreement or mortgage together.”
“It’s also fascinating to see the everyday things we do and the effect they have on our partners – we may want to be a little tidier and cleaner if we want to keep our partners happy.”
One in five (22%) moved in with a partner after one or two years of dating.
Most men (26%) say that their partner does not have any discomfort that bothers them as much, but for women, leaving the toilet up was the biggest discomfort while living with their partner (23%).
Despite these statistics, eight out of 10 (82%) people say it is easy to live with, and 18% admit it is not.
“Couples should plan very carefully before moving in together.”
Dating Scout Relationship Expert Chris Pleines offers his advice on moving in with a partner to help couples looking to take that important step: “Moving in together is an important decision, so you need to plan things carefully.”
“Living with a partner, you can no longer avoid talking about the other’s finances, so you should talk about your arrangements and financial situation before looking for a home and moving in together.”
“This way, both of you will know how much you can afford and make sure you don’t live beyond your means.”
“It is important to be realistic and not expect everything to go according to plan. There will be some obstacles along the way, but don’t be discouraged when these problems arise.”
“Remember the most important thing to consider is how you feel about each other and try to have fun while running errands and other important things that come with moving in together.”
