Irish believe #COVID-19 restrictions will slowly disappear
The Irish population is convinced that the restriction measures for Coronavirus will progressively disappear. According to a study carried out by ESRI, lockdown and social distancing measures are expected to last until September.
Indoor social activities may not take place at least at the end of the year. Shows, meetings, conventions, and sporting events are just some of the activities that will continue to be prohibited until the Coronavirus has been controlled.
“We have to make the necessary sacrifices”
The general opinion is that the essential economic sectors should be prioritized, leaving recreational activities in the last place. The lockdown measures have directly affected the Irish economy, and it is a difficult job to revive the industry.
ESRI Behavioral Research Unit member, Cameron Belton, gave statements on the results of this study: “This study has confirmed the ability of the Irish to unite in times of crisis. #coronavirus is an unprecedented threat to the world. In this scenario, we have realized how important it is to proceed with patience; we cannot risk that a new outbreak of the virus occurs.”
“The people of Ireland are ready to make sacrifices in the present, to obtain a result that benefits all of us in the long term. These necessary sacrifices will allow us to recover more quickly from the great economic and social damages that #COVID-19 has caused.”
“We will return to normal in 2021”
The results of this study were obtained after the Prime Minister’s announcements during his May 1st speech. During this speech, the Prime Minister presented the actions that will be taken to reactivate essential sectors of the economy and society.
The results of the study showed that very few people believe that the process of reactivating the economy would be quick, on the contrary, the vast majority are sure that it will take several months for everything to return to normal.
Markets and workplaces that are not essential to the economy are expected to open in a month or two. The restaurants, cafes, and recreation sites will reopen to the public from July and August.
Schools and entertainment venues other than outdoors will be closed until September. Sports facilities, gyms, arts, and cultural centers, pubs, and clubs will also remain closed until that date.
It is expected that by the beginning of the year 2021, economic and recreational activities will return to normal. However, these dates could change depending on what may happen in the coming weeks.
