Demand for senior living properties in rural areas rise 65%.
A considerable increase in the demand for these properties is expected for this year.
There is expected to be more demand for rural properties from seniors this year, according to White & Sons Estate Agents in Dorking.
Rightmove found that there has been a substantial 65% increase in the number of shoppers seeking a village lifestyle compared to last year.
This change in behavior has been created in the wake of pandemic restrictions that have led buyers to evaluate their existing homes and the location where they live in favor of a picturesque lifestyle with access to more outdoor space in a rural location.
“2021 will be a year with many homes for seniors.”
Tom Witchell, Partner at White & Sons Dorking, said: “There has been a huge increase in the number of inquiries about rural households.”
“In Dorking alone, there have been over 25% new buyers and 15% more properties listed in 2020, as a result of the pandemic and pent-up demand post-Brexit, which has created a unique situation where there are a number just as many buyers and sellers in the marketplace that is not usually the case.”
“In 2020, we also saw a considerable shift in buyer demographics with the older generation looking to sell their existing home in favor of a community lifestyle and being closer to their families after experiencing loneliness during the lockdown.”
ARCO, (the Associated Operators of the Retiree Community) also reports that there has been an increase of around 30-50% in the number of inquiries about the retirement communities.
The coronavirus pandemic has created a frenzy of activity in the senior housing sector in 2020, and now more buyers are looking for a new home in a rural setting and this trend is expected to continue well into 2021.
