Spotahome’s research looked at each London borough based on the population of Main Street as a percentage of the total population.
For example, the City of London has 82% of the population living on or near the main street and an average rental cost of £2,274.
In the nine boroughs where more than 50% of the population is on or near Main Street, people pay rent above the London average of £1,644.
“The trend is changing, and people prefer the cheapest places.”
Nadia Butt, Spotahome UK, and Ireland Country Manager said: “While it is understandable that people pay more to be close to amenities like tube stations, bars, and restaurants, this trend may be changing.”
“After spending months indoors, many tenants are prioritizing green space over busy Main Street, especially as they seek to avoid being exposed to the virus in the event of a possible second wave.”
“So we may see a rebalancing of the rental cost, as demand shifts from Main Street to parks and greenery, and these currently more affordable districts drive up the cost as a result.”
