Translink declares 3-day strike amid pay claims in NI

Translink, Northern Ireland’s public transport provider, has averted a three-day strike after bosses presented an “improved pay offer” following negotiations with unions representing bus and train drivers.

Suspension of Strike

The planned 72-hour strike, scheduled to commence at midnight on Tuesday, has been suspended, according to a statement released by the unions on Sunday evening. Members of the three unions will now vote on whether to accept the new offer, preventing public transport disruption on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Negotiations and Improved Offer

Following the rejection of an initial pay offer by Translink management on Thursday, negotiations resumed on Sunday, resulting in an improved pay offer for all Translink employees. The unions have suspended the strike action in response to the new offer and will continue balloting their memberships.

In their statement, the unions highlighted the suspension of the strike action and the forthcoming ballot on the new offer. They emphasized the determination of the workforce representatives to secure a cost-of-living pay increase for bus and rail workers.
